Swimsuit season is here, and already, we're finding some interesting choices available for summer 2017 — but it looks like Little Mix's Perrie Edwards is looking to outdo some of the stranger ones we've seen so far. Late last month, Amir Slama's one-sleeved bikini had folks on the internet scratching their heads. The elastodiene-crafted swimsuit, which looks like it's made out of denim, boasts an enormous single bell sleeve, which one person observed, "allows me to sneak a ham poolside."
There may not be enough room in Edwards's swimsuit to smuggle snacks, but she's definitely trying to make a case for sleeved swimwear. The singer posted an image to her Instagram feed, picturing her lounging on a boat in a four-piece (yes, you read that right) white swimsuit, which includes a bandeau top, bottoms, and separate sleeves — one for each arm. The piece is from British swimsuit label Luna Falls, aptly named the Perrie Bespoke Crinkle swimsuit with long sleeves. The swim ensemble, which also comes in blue and pink, is handmade to order. Now, why anyone would need partial sleeves on a swimsuit is still a mystery, but we guess we can't knock a girl for taking a fashion risk and getting a little bit of added sun protection while on vacation.
It looks like the swimsuit with sleeves trend is starting to slowly catch on. In addition to Slama's (admittedly bizarre) number and Edwards's getup, Kendall Jenner was spotted in Cannes wearing a long-sleeved white swimsuit from Midsommar Swim, which doubles perfectly as a part of a regular outfit.
So, are sleeved swimsuits here to stay? Who knows — we've got the whole summer ahead of us to see just how far this trend will go.
